Ruth Marie Donohue, 89, of Oak Bluffs and formerly of Hingham, died on Dec. 25 at Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following her extended battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born on August 8, 1920 in Boston to Francis C. and Ruth M. Gorman. She graduated from Milton High School in 1938 and then graduated from Pierce Secretarial School in Boston. She was married to John T. Donohue in 1946. She was employed as a secretary for Hingham Mutual and then retired as a receptionist for Hitchcock Furniture. She was an avid golfer and once an active member of the South Shore Country Club. She also loved to knit.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia A. DeFelice and son in law Eugene DeFelice Jr.; grandchildren Timothy DeFelice, Melissa and Scott Ogden; and great-grandchild Katherine Ogden, all of Oak Bluffs. Her brother, Peter Gorman of Fort Myers, Fla., sister, Katherine Kent of Falmouth, and several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Her husband, John T. Donohue and her brothers, Francis Gorman, and Thomas Gorman, predeceased her.

A funeral mass and burial was held on Wednesday, Dec. 30 2009 at St. Paul’s Church and Cemetery in Hingham. Donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to Windemere Activities Department, P.O. Box 1747, Oak Bluffs, MA 02557. Arrangements are under the care of Chapman, Cole & Gleason, Oak Bluffs.
