Margaret L. Manning died on Jan. 17 at the Windemere Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Oak Bluffs. She was born Margaret Louise Grayson on June 2, 1916, in Farmersville, Tex. She was predeceased in 2004 by her beloved husband, Melvin (Tex) Manning.
The Mannings moved to the Vineyard from Rio Rancho, N.M., in 2002 after spending 24 peaceful retirement years there. They raised their two children in Hopatcong, N.J., where Margo was active in the West Side United Methodist Church, the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, and her fun group of friends the Bullettes. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, and also had played the accordion and violin.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Benway of Vineyard Haven; and her son and wife Michael J. Manning and Jane of Sparta, N.J.; grandchildren Julie Benway of Vineyard Haven, Jesse Manning of Sparta and Mitchell Benway of Asheville, N.C.; and one great-grandchild, Aedan Manning.
A memorial service will be scheduled in the coming months.
