Gerald Harold Chipperfield died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 4, surrounded by his loving family members and the care of Island Hospice. He was 81.

Gerry was born Nov. 10, 1928 in Westerly, R.I., the son of Ethel E. Chipperfield and Gerald Harold Payne. He lived in Oak Buffs, since moving to the Island in 1960, after serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945 to 1952 in the Pacific, China and Korea. On the Island he was a well-known commercial fisherman and carpenter. He will be missed by many friends and family.

He is survived by his five sons, Gerald Jr., Alan, Kenneth, David and Donald; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and his longtime companion, Marci Landi.

There will be a military service at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m.
