Marilyn Vater died in Tucson, Ariz., on Feb. 10. She was born and raised in Edgartown, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Errol T. Fisher. Marilyn attended the Edgartown School and graduated in 1944. After graduation she joined the Cadet Nurses Corps and after training received her R.N. in nursing.

In 1947 she married James Vater, of Jamaica Plain, who was a bank loan officer and they moved to Great Barrington until they retired and moved to Tucson, Ariz. Both were avid golf players and spent as much time as they could on the golf course.

She leaves three daughters, Janet of Wichita, Kan., Pamela of Fla., Suzanne of Eagle River, Alas., five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a sister, Charlotte Walpole of Edgartown. Another sister, Audrey Wilson of Sun City, Calif., predeceased her. Her husband died in 2007.
