Frederick C. N. Littleton, formerly of Chilmark, died Sunday, March 7, in New York .

He was born Nov. 21, 1924 in Bala Cynwyd, Pa., to Jean and Arthur Littleton.

He is survived by his five children; daughters Millie Garroway, Jean Knight and Elinor Garan; sons Frederick Littleton, Jr. and Clement Littleton; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His wife, Elinor C. Littleton, and three grandsons predeceased him.

He was an officer in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during the Second World War. During his life in Wayne, Penn., he was an attorney for Grubb, Guest and Littleton, legal counsel and vice president for the Fidelity Bank, and a partner in Littleton and Anderson. He was an active member of St David’s Episcopal Church.

He moved to Chilmark with his wife in 1985. He was the harbor master in Menemsha and the Chilmark shellfish constable for several years. He built wooden boats and enjoyed his lifelong love of sailing. He was an active member of the Chilmark Church and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

A graveside service of thanksgiving for his life will be held at Abel’s Hill Cemetery in Chilmark, on March 13 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a memorial at 2 p.m. on the deck of the Schooner Ernestina at the New Bedford State Pier, New Bedford, MA 02741.
