Peter L. Regan, beloved husband of Eulalie Morris Regan, died Saturday, March 20, at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 87 years old.

Born in Oak Bluffs, he was the son of Peter and Mary Mills Regan. Following his graduation from the Oak Bluffs High School, he worked as a welder in the Charlestown Navy Yard during World War II. Returning to the Island after the war, Peter joined the Oak Bluffs post office as a temporary clerk, eventually retiring as postmaster. Continuing on in public service, Peter delighted in helping the elderly and the disabled while driving for the Vineyard Transit Authority.

In his younger years, he participated heavily in town service, having been chairman of the planning board, a member of the finance committee, a longtime volunteer fireman and treasurer of the Oak Bluffs fire department. He was also treasurer of the Cub and Boy Scouts, as well as the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Peter will be greatly missed by Eulalie, his wife of 58 years, his children, Eulalie R. Gutman and her husband Dennis of South Easton, Peter L. Jr. of Dayton, Ohio and Philip J. and his wife Deborah of Oak Bluffs; his grandchildren Christine Gutman, Peter E., Jonathan, Shelby, Jared and Jeremy Regan. He was predeceased by his brother, Francis and his granddaughter, Kimberly.

A Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 27 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Oak Bluffs. Interment will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Vineyard avenue in Oak Bluffs.
