Bert (Bud) L. Merrill, 82, formerly of Lakeville, and Venice, Fla., died on May 27 at the Somerset Ridge Center. He was the husband of Virginia B. (Butterworth) Merrill.

Born in Oak Bluffs, on May 1, 1928, he was the son of the late Bert L. and Idora (Beatty) Merrill. After graduating from Mansfield High School, Bud attended Boston University. He then joined and served in the U.S. Navy for two years. Bud’s career in sales led him to travel widely throughout the country as well as live in several different areas. His easygoing and affable manner endeared him to those he met over the years. He loved his family and was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed golf, sports, the beach, and especially time spent with his family.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by two daughters, Elaine Nelson of Plainville, and Lisa McCarron and her husband Phil of Lakeville; and his brother, Ben Merrill and his wife Betty of Sandwich. He was the proud grandfather of Stacee Valencia, Greg Keating, Lori Rego and Shaylee, Kenzie, Emelia and Lilia McCarron; and great-grandfather of James Logan, and Kalyn and Jack Valencia.

A private memorial service will take place this summer on the Vineyard.

Arrangements are under the care of the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home in Lakeville.
