Walter H. Stacy, 86, of Dracut and Edgartown, died Saturday evening, June 12, at Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Florence M. (Waight) Stacy.

Born in Lowell on Jan. 7, 1924, he was a son of the late George and Florence (Normandin) Stacy. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1942, and enlisted in the Army 8th Cavalry Regiment serving during World War II as a staff sergeant in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.

He was employed for over 45 years by the Boston & Maine Railroad, working primarily at the Lowell Yard Office. When he retired in 1986, he had highest seniority on the B& M Railroad Roster.

Active in both communities, he was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Golf Club as well as comedy master for the Mt. Pleasant Variety Shows and was a member of the Hynes Golf League in Lowell. On the Vineyard he delivered Meals on Wheels and was Weigh Master for the Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby.

In his free time he enjoyed reading, golfing and fishing, was an avid Red Sox fan and cherished time spent in the company of his loving family. He will be fondly remembered for his wicked sense of humor.

He is survived by two daughters, Ann Stacy and Gail Norden and her husband Peter, all of Dracut; one grandson, Carl L. Norden of Boulder Creek, Calif.; two brothers, Robert Stacy of Lowell and William Stacy and his wife Carol of New Hampshire and Florida; one niece and several nephews. He was also the brother of the late Pauline Gallagher and Florence Daley.

According to his wish, funeral services will be private and entrusted to the care of Dracut Funeral Home.
