On Saturday, August 28, we lost our son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend, Erick Vernon Clements. In 2003 Erick suffered a work-related injury resulting in serious head trauma; complications from that accident took their toll since then. Erick grew up an Island kid and attended Vineyard schools, where he made quite an impression on those who taught him and those who got to know him. Erick cared deeply for his friends; he loved his family and admired those close to him. Always mischievous, often strongly opinionated, Erick was one of a kind. He was an amazing athlete, especially at baseball where it was said Erick could cover the entire outfield on his own. He cherished sports legends such as Ruth, Mantle, Payton, Earnhardt, Marciano, and Ali. He was a movie connoisseur with a seemingly photographic memory and could recall actors’ names and lines at the drop of a hat. Erick took pride in working and became inspired by carpentry while attending programs to better his occupational skills.

Erick is survived by his parents, Albert and Vera-Jean Clements; his older brother Albert and sister in law Becky; younger sister Summer-Anne; Grandpa Vernon Jernegan; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandmothers, Marilyn Jernegan and Lorraine Clements, and grandfather Albert Clements 2nd.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Vineyard Avenue in Oak Bluffs, officiated by the Rev. Michael Nagle. Following the interment all are invited to the P.A. Club; please bring a dish to share.

Donations may be made in his memory to the Oak Bluffs Library, P.O. Box 2039, Oak Bluffs, MA 02557. Arrangements are under the care of the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs. Please visit ccgfuneralhome.com for online guest book and information.
