Debbie Sankey of Hull and Chappaquiddick died peacefully at home, surrounded by her children, on Tuesday, Sept. 7. She was 69. She will be forever remembered as an avid walker, photographer, conservationist, teacher, equestrian, shepherdess and artist who spent much time by the ocean. Most recently her dream came to fruition as an accomplished farmer on the Island dearest to her heart. Tending her sheep, gardens and birds gave her much peace and solace. Deb made fast friends with her neighbors; her smile and grace touched many; and her great love and dedication to family was an extraordinary example for us all. Although Deb made time for quiet reflection and contemplation, she never hesitated to put on her party sneakers and dance until dawn. Her beauty radiated; she always lit up a room. Even through the darkest storm, Deb’s courage and strength allowed her to find a silver lining in the most challenging situations. She was the truest of confidants to her children and grandchildren whose love for her is precious and deep.

She is survived by her children, Jason, Emily and Jessica; grandchildren, Sarah and Olivia; sister, Leslie; and her extended family and many dear friends.

The family would like to thank hospice for their gentle care and guidance, especially to Ann Ledden whose support was immeasurable. A private service is being held on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at the Hingham Cemetery. A memorial service with friends and family will take place in October at World’s End in Hingham. Details will follow in a future edition of the Gazette. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Deborah J. Sankey Tribute/Honor Fund through the MSPCA (mspca.org).
