Barbara E. (Pignati) Cassiani of Oak Bluffs and formerly of Barnstable, died on Tuesday, April 5 in Cambridge after a lengthy illness. She was 67 and was the beloved wife of Richard Cassiani.

Born in Floral Park, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Christopher and Violet (Bregartner) Pignati.

She graduated from H. Frank Carey High School in New York and the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth with a bachelor of arts degree in English. Mrs. Cassiani worked for the Barnstable public school system as an assistant librarian until her retirement in 2001. After her retirement she worked part-time as librarian in the Oak Bluffs Public Library.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, traveling, knitting, sewing and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Besides her husband of 21 years, she is survived by her daughters, Darre Halloran of Quincy and Erica Bennett of Whitman, her stepsons, Michael Cassiani of Vineyard Haven and Dennis Cassiani of Weymouth, and 10 grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Darre Mattie of Washington state, Christine Mills, and Gail Duchamp, both of New Jersey, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 16 in the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Falmouth, followed by a memorial service at noon in the funeral home.
