Florence M. (Campos) Lavelle of Hyannis and formerly of Vineyard Haven died on Tuesday, May 17 at the Cape Cod Hospital. She was 87.

Florence was the daughter and one of 15 children of Manuel Campos and Mary (Viera) Campos, who immigrated from the Azores. She was born on Jan. 17, 1924, in Oak Bluffs. She graduated from the Tisbury High School.

Florence was a resident of Vineyard Haven until moving to Cape Winds Assisted Living in Hyannis nine years ago and recently at Cape Regency in Centerville. She worked as a housekeeper for various Island homes and later as a clerk for SBS. She was an active parishioner at St. Augustine’s Church in Vineyard Haven. She enjoyed cooking, baking and entertaining the family and friends that always came through her door to sit and chat.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Francis A. Coutinho and Joseph P. Lavelle. She is survived by her three sons, Robert Coutinho, Craig Coutinho and Joseph Lavelle; her daughter, Brenda Canha; four grandchildren, Zachary and Cody Coutinho and Michael and Jason Canha; two great-grandchildren, Krista and Dominick; also by her last surviving sibling, Anna Medeiros of Oak Bluffs.

A memorial mass will be held in St. Augustine’s Church in Vineyard Haven on Wednesday, June 1 at 11 a.m.. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven. Donations may be made in her memory to the Good Shepherd Parish, P.O. Box 1058, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568.
