Gertrude Hall Kenney died at her Vineyard Haven home on Sunday morning, July 17. She was 85.

Gertrude was born on August 14, 1925, in New York city to Mary Stoddart Archer and Henry Hall. She grew up in Cos Cob, Conn., and was married to Joseph P. Kenney Sr. for 57 years before his death in 2004.

Gertrude graduated from Greenwich High School and Woods Secretarial School. She was employed by the town of Greenwich for many years starting in beaches and boat harbors and finally retiring from North Mianus, where she was school secretary for many years. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star in Greenwich.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Hall Kenney and her husband, Douglas M. Asselin; her son, Joseph P. Kenney Jr. and his wife, Karen Belsford Kenney, all of Vineyard Haven; and by four grandchildren, Patrick Daur of Vineyard Haven, Brian Daur of Bronx, N.Y.; Lauren Graham of Naugatuck, Conn., and Douglas Asselin Jr. of Vineyard Haven; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her grandson, Joseph P. Kenney 3rd.

A graveside service was held on Tuesday, July 19, in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven officiated by the Rev. Roger Spinney. Donations may be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice.
