Mary Ruth Follas, 64, of Edgartown, died on Thursday, July 14, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 64.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, Mary spent most of her youth in Ohio. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1965 and studied physical education at Ohio University. She lived in Sylvania, Ohio, until 1968 when she moved to the Vineyard.
Mary was the office manager and a key employee at Educomp for 17 years. Prior to that, she was the manager of bookkeeping for the former Martha’s Vineyard National Bank.
She was a loving grandmother with a great fondness for nature. She enjoyed traveling and loved spending time outdoors, especially biking, kayaking, cross-country skiing and gardening. She was a communicant at St. Elizabeth’s Parish in Edgartown and a friend to many.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Sarah W. Marcotte and her husband, Brett, of Seekonk; a brother, John C. Follas Jr. and his wife, Carroll, of West Harwich; two grandchildren, Oliver and Wesley Marcotte; two nephews, David and Stephen Follas and many first cousins.
A Mass of Celebration was said at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Edgartown on Monday, July 18. Interment will follow at a later date in Seekonk. A celebration of Mary’s life for family and friends will be held in the fall at a site to be determined.
