A memorial service will be held this morning for Juliet Burkett, a Chilmark resident and graduate of the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School who died in a car crash in South Dakota on Sept. 18. She was the daughter of Joe Burkett and the late Rise Sroka of Chilmark.

A 2007 graduate of the charter school, Ms. Burkett was a student at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash. She was a passenger in the car that went off the road on Interstate 90 near Presho, S.D. last Sunday. Ms. Burkett and the driver were both wearing seat belts and alcohol was not a factor in the accident, according to a news report published on KDLT.com.

The service is this morning at 11 a.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center.
