Mrs. Alice W. (Willis) Isaacs, a resident of Medford for more than 75 years and beloved wife of the late Walter A. Isaacs, died at the Glen Ridge Nursing Center in Medford on Tuesday, Oct. 11. She was 100.

Born in Cambridge on May 8, 1911, she was the beloved daughter of the late Lee R. and Lillian R. (Hogan) Willis.

Mrs. Isaacs was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin and worked as a clerk at Medford City Hall for many years. Alice was an avid reader and in her spare time also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She volunteered her knitting skill set to the Guideposts Magazine Knit for Kids International Sweater Program — donating her hand-knitted and crocheted sweaters to children around the globe.

She was an active member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in West Medford. She served as assistant superintendent, teacher and pianist of the church’s Sunday school. She was also a member of the Queen Esther Circle and the West Medford Community Senior Center.

Alice and her husband, Walter, had been homeowners and summer residents in Oak Bluffs. While there, they attended the First Baptist Church in Vineyard Haven. She dearly loved spending time on the Island at the Isaacs family cottage.

Mrs. Isaacs had been a longtime member of the American Baptist Women. She also was a former member of the Tufts University History Project of African Americans.

She will be sorely missed by her loving daughter and son, Cynthia M. Isaacs of Medford, and Walter L. and his wife, Jayne C. Isaacs, of Danbury, Conn. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Miles D. Thrash and Steven Thrash, both of West Medford, Leslie E. Isaacs McCoy of Atlanta, Ga., Peter H. Isaacs of Templeton, Emory L. Isaacs of Waterbury, Conn., Garrett D. Isaacs of Danbury, Conn., Aaron W. Isaacs of West Hartford, Conn., and Mahlori B. Isaacs of Bethesda, Md.; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters in law, Evelyn Isaacs and Marie Isaacs, and numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was also the devoted sister of the late George E. Willis.

Her funeral service was celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home on Oct. 20. Interment was in Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree.
