Toy Lasker, creator and editor of Flashmaps guidebooks to cities in the U.S. and Europe, died peacefully at her home near Boston on Nov. 2. She was 92.

She was the wife of the late U.S. District Judge Morris E. Lasker, whom she met and married during World War II in Salt lake City, Utah. For years, the Laskers divided their time between Chappaqua, N.Y., and their summer home on Martha’s Vineyard. In 1994, the couple moved to Cambridge, where they continued to work in their chosen fields.

Toy Lasker was known for her natural beauty — inside and out — and for her vitality and zest for life. She was a devoted wife and mother and of great support to her husband throughout his outstanding career as a federal judge. Mrs. Lasker, who was educated at Rowland Hall-St. Mark’s School in Salt Lake City, and the University of Utah, was a spiritual woman, who loved nature, family, friends, politics, cooking, art and the humanities. She was robust and hard working in everything she did, and in many ways she was a renaissance woman. A creative and involved mother, she was also an avid public citizen and political activist, who served as a New York State Democratic party committeewoman. A great believer in women’s rights and an extraordinarily successful businesswoman, Toy Lasker was also a talented oil painter. She was founder and publisher of Flashmaps Inc., maker of maps and guidebooks that collectively sold over three million copies before she sold her business to Random House in 1987. She also was the author of A Guide to the Senior Corps: A Great Grandmother’s Advice on How to Survive Old Age, which she self-published at the young age of 86.

To family and friends Toy Lasker will be remembered most for her grace and spirit, her impeccable integrity and honesty, and her unalterable commitment to whatever task or enterprise she undertook. She strove for excellence in all her endeavors and was tireless in her pursuit of a meaningful life.

She is survived by her four children, Harry M. Lasker 3rd and his wife Abigail Housen of Cambridge; David E. Lasker of Lake Delton, Wisc.,; Kristen Lasker and her husband Robert Rosa of Cambridge; and Timothy W. Lasker and his wife Andrea Ashare-Lewis of Charlestown; as well as her nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
