Gwendolyn Welch Suttles of Interlachen, Fla., died Nov. 28, following complications from heart bypass surgery at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, Fla. She was surrounded by her husband of 14 years, Harold Suttles and her children.

Gwen was born and raised on Martha’s Vineyard, the daughter of the late Eleanor and Chauncy Welch. She enjoyed horseback riding and fishing during her years on the Island and was a participant in the bass and bluefish derby held on the Island every year.

Gwen retired to Florida in 1995, where she met her husband, and was closer to her grandchildren. She traveled often to Miami with her husband, and they shared a talent for ceramics and other crafts and participated in outdoor markets. Although a longtime Florida resident, Gwen followed her New England sports teams closely.

She was predeceased by her grandson, Robert Michael Luce. She is survived by her loving husband, Harold Suttles of Interlachen, Fla.; her sisters, Mildred Scott of Oak Bluffs, and Adelaine Francis of Tampa, Fla.; her children, Robert Luce of Colorado, Janet Turner of Miami , Fla., Bonnie Luce of Sarasota, Fla., and Margaret Montesa of Virginia Beach Va.; along with 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
