Tom ran a class act with the Edgardown Scrimshaw Gallery. I knew him for ten years, and he was always a gentleman and scholar. He knew his stuff when it came to art. He will be missed and remembered by many people for a long time to come. Rest in Peace.

Tom's life here on the Vineyard was a rich one. His description of the beginnings of his Unicorn Coffee House in Oak Bluffs back in the early 60's folk music era was a particularly interesting and humourous account. An accomplished artist, his attention to detail and enormous talent will live on through his many scrimshaw pieces that will be passed on through generations of their owners. A kind man, Tommy will be missed by many.

Tom was far more than a scrimshaw artist, his talents included painting, performing music and directing theater, the art of salesmanship, woodworking, and owning a coffer house early in his career. His gallery represented the work of many artists and crafts people, and he worked very hard to explain their work. He was one of the Island's human treasures. He will be missed.

Tom will be greatly missed by his family and friends that he has made over the years. I have known Tom and his sister Rita since I was 9 and have been lucky to be a part of their family .Tom was an incredible scrimshaw artist, carved incredible whales, painted beautiful paintings, was a playwrite, composed music,sang and was a poet. The art world has lost one of it's best and we have lost someone we loved dearly.

It was Tom who gave me my start as a seashell artist two years ago. There is no doubt in my mind that he will be missed by many, as an artist, and a gentleman. Rest in peace.

Over thirty years ago, Tom was the first person to purchase my scrimshaw for his shop. While most of the work in the shop was his, he was kind enough and enthusiastic to carry my work also. Through the years we developed both a professional and personnal bond. I will truly miss his sense of humor and supportive nature.

My Husband and I have know Tom for 6 years. He sold my husbands Powder Horns & Tomahawks in his Shop. He was a very nice man & had excellent taste in the things he chose for his shop and his style & class will be missed. I hope his shop will continue to be a place of class like Tom made it.

I just learned of Tom's death. He was an Edgartown institution. A generous teacher, an honest merchant, a gifted creator of art and a builder of community. His passing leaves a void in our midst that will be impossible to fill. God rest his soul and comfort ours at his passing. Nancy Wolf Greenwich, CT

This is just plain bad news. I had known Tom since we painted house on the Vineyard in the early 70s. This news comes as something of shock. He was a decent human being as well as a talented artist and will be missed by many.

Oh, how I am going to miss you cousin Tom! I am one year older than Tom and we always got along real well. It makes myself and others so happy to read the really Great things written here about him, by so many friends. During our visits we would usually see each other twice a day. Lots of talk about business, family and politics. We made it a tradition once a week to dine out at the Square Rigger, with as many other relatives or friends that would come. Tom you are a class act and you will be greatly missed. I will save you a seat at Rigger.
