Elizabeth Muriel Cole Frieh, 93, of Sandwich and Martha’s Vineyard, died peacefully on Jan. 11 with her family at her bedside.
The daughter of Lucretia and Veranus Cole, Libby was born on June 11, 1918 in Providence, R.I., but lived most of her life on the Vineyard. She worked as assistant town clerk in Tisbury until she became a full-time homemaker. She found love later in life, married Eugene Frieh, and raised five children. After retiring to Sandwich in 1978, she and Gene enjoyed many years together with family and traveling. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren and celebrating all of their successes. Through all of the challenges she has faced, including recent infirmities, Libby was known for her kindness and graciousness and was well-loved by all of those who cared for her.
Libby was predeceased by here husband, Eugene Frieh and daughter Patricia Gulini. Survivors include her brother, Francis Cole and his wife Virginia of Alexandria, Va.; children Ann Skriletz and her husband Jay of Perry, Me.; Elizabeth Foote of Bath, Me.; Eugene Paul Frieh and his wife Lisa of Marstons Mills, Philip Frieh and his wife, Carolyn of Saginaw, Tex., son in law Dave Gulini; grandchildren Jesse Foote, Caitlin Foote, Ross Pike, Elissa Pike-English, Jaques Skriletz, Erin Gulini, Matthew Gulini, Nathan Gulini, Zachary Gulini, Faye Gulini, Natalie Frieh, Kristen Frieh, Nolan Frieh, Patrick Frieh, Jason Frieh, and Brian Frieh; and great-grandchildren Patrick, Kenzee, and Charlie; dearly-loved stepdaughters Janet Cunningham and her husband John, and Barbara Brunelle and their children and grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service celebrating Libby’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14 in the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs. A committal service will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven.
