Marilyn S. Post, 85, of Batavia, N.Y. and a former Martha’s Vineyard resident, died peacefully on Feb. 3 at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia. She died six days after the death of her husband, William Richard (Dick) Post, whom she married on June 30, 1947 in Batavia.

Born April 27, 1926, in Batavia, Mrs. Post was the daughter of the late Walter and Ione Volz Stevens. A graduate of Batavia High School, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Batavia.

Mrs. Post and her husband moved from Batavia in 1969 to Pearl River, N.Y., where she was an active member of the Naurashaun Presbyterian Church. For over 10 years in the 1980s and 1990s, the couple ran the Post House on Martha’s Vineyard. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Vineyard Haven.

Marilyn had a flair for decorating and will be remembered as being creative and artistic, with a natural talent for anything she put her hand to. She thoroughly enjoyed re-upholstering furniture, doll-making, needlework, painting, and rug-hooking. She and Dick designed two of their Vineyard homes. Marilyn also enjoyed the outdoors, especially bird-watching and walks on the beach with her husband and family.

She is survived by her children, Donna Post of Batavia, Jeffrey and wife, Maryellen, Post, of Albion, N.Y. and Melissa and husband, Thomas, Porter of Winsted, Conn.; three grandsons, Brendan and wife, Abigail, Post, of North Chili, N.Y., Christopher Post of Batavia and Ryan Post of Albion; two brothers in law, G. David and wife, Nancy, Post, of Batavia and Donald and wife, Debra, Post, of Rochester, N.Y.; along with two nieces and four nephews.

Dick Post died on Jan. 28. Mrs. Post is also predeceased by her son, William Richard (Bill) Post Jr., and her cousin, Helen (Honey) Pratt.

Marilyn’s funeral services were to be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 East Main street, Batavia. Interment was to be in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia.
