James A. Cooke died on Feb. 27 at the age of 70.
Born in Boston on June 13, 1941, he was the son of the late Patrick J. Cooke and the late Mary (Madeline) Gibbs Cooke. Jim retired to Florida in 1993 after a successful career in the grocery business. He enjoyed fishing, sports, cooking, following politics, traveling and spending time with his family.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years Katherine (Peg Grafton) Cooke as well as his son James A. Cooke and his wife Kathleen (Nearing) Cooke of Sterling, Va. He is also survived by daughters Cheryll (Cooke) Sashin and her husband Howard of Oak Bluffs, Maureen (Cooke) Bell and her husband Donald of Gainesville, Va., and Marilyn (Cooke) Lewis and her husband Michael of Mansfield; eight grandchildren Patrick and Caitlin Cooke, Mac and James Sashin, Amanda and Ashley Colter, Peter and Katherine Lewis; two sisters, Mary (Cooke) Aronofsky and her husband Joseph Aronofsky of Micco, Fla., Margaret (Cooke) Ernest and her husband Michael Ernest of Ft. Myers, Fla.; three brothers, John Cooke of Pembroke, Thomas Cooke and his wife Carol (Holt) Cooke of Tewksbury, Robert Cooke and his wife Sheila (Donahue) Cooke of Carver. he was the brother of the late Gerald E. and William P. Cooke and Patricia (Cooke) Foran.
At Jim’s request he will be cremated in Florida and his ashes will be returned to Boston where he has a large extended family and where he spent his youth.
The Cooke family would like to thank all his friends and neighbors for their concern, help and kind expressions of sympathy.
