Stephen Xavier Doyle of Martha’s Vineyard and New York, died on Feb. 14, after a long battle with health issues. He was 71.

A loving, kind and spirited man, Steve maintained a sense of humor in the face of adversity. Steve will be deeply missed by his family, friends and caretakers.

He was born in Hartford and raised his family in Great Neck and Manhattan, N.Y. He enjoyed spending time with his family, walking, reading, writing, photography, fishing and being near the ocean. He spent the past several years on Martha’s Vineyard and most recently at Nassau Extended Care in Long Island.

Steve earned a doctorate from the Harvard Business School, a diploma from the London School of Economics and a BS from Manhattan College. He was the founder of a New York-based sales management consulting firm, SXD Associates. Steve was widely published and read, and taught and received tenure at Iona College’s Graduate School of Business.

He is survived by his four children, Stephanie and her husband Rob, Heather and her husband Jason, Joanna, and Gabriel; former wife Bernice; sister Lorraine; sisters in law Ann, Arlene and Patricia; grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

The viewing service took place Feb. 17 at the Roslyn Heights Funeral Home in Roslyn, N.Y. A Memorial Service was also held on Feb. 17 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock. Interment took place Feb. 18 at Nassau Knolls Cemetery in New York. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Steve’s name to St. Paul’s Center, 424 W. 34th street New York, NY 10001. St. Paul’s is a nonprofit community health center committed to caring for people with chronic mental illness, especially the poor and homeless, with respect, integrity, compassion and excellence.
