Kathleen B. Smith of Coral Gables, Fla., died on Friday, Sept. 7, at the University of Miami Hospital after a four-year battle with Hodgkins lymphoma and MDS.

KB, as she was affectionately known, was born in Staten Island, N.Y., the daughter of Philip and Eileen Brown. She grew up in Caracas, Venezuela, Brussels, Belgium, Convent Station, N.J., and Oak Bluffs. She attended the University of Salamanca in Spain and is a graduate of Springfield College in Springfield.

She spent her entire career with Marsh & McLennan Companies in New York and Miami. Most recently she was a managing director and Latin American Regional Head of Placement and Marketing and Communications for Marsh Inc.

Kathleen is survived by her husband of 31 years, Stephen L. Smith; children Stephanie and Timothy; her mother; sisters, Suzanne, Lisa and Victoria; brothers, Barry and PJ, their spouses; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to The American Cancer Society, The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The family also asks that all who can, sign up to become bone marrow donors by registering with the National Marrow Donor Program.

A celebration of her life is planned for Oct. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Parish, Coral Gables, Fla.
