Janice P. (Jan) MacKenzie Teller of Delaware, died unexpectedly Jan. 1, 2013 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware. She was 80.
A homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother, she will be affectionately remembered as a devoted and gracious minister’s wife, serving Methodist churches throughout her marriage in Ada, Tipp City, Dayton, Springfield, Findlay and Marysville, Ohio, as well as in Delaware. She was proud of growing up on Martha’s Vineyard, where she graduated from high school.
A 1954 graduate of Harvard University, she received a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She graduated with a master’s degree in Christian education from Boston University in 1957. She served as the Director of Christian Education at Trinity Methodist Church in Columbus from 1957 to 1960. During this time, she met her husband.
She was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter EA. She enjoyed sewing and designed and fabricated her own line of clothing fashions while she resided in Springfield and Findlay, Ohio. She also was manager of a Findlay, Ohio gift shoppe, Sign of the Bell. During their retirement years, she and her husband moved to Marysville, Ohio in 1994 where she became active at Marysville First United Methodist Church and for many years taught a women’s Bible class. She was born July 26, 1932 on Martha’s Vineyard to the late Clyde L. and Ruth Guilford MacKenzie. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Rev. A. Richard “Dick” Teller of Delaware, whom she married Dec. 18, 1960; her daughter, Catherine Malone and husband Peter of Milton, Massachusetts; her son, Dr. Timothy Teller and wife Dr. Grace Ryu of Hilliard; her step-son, Richard E. Teller, wife Cheryl and family of Bealeton, Virginia; five grandchildren: Charlotte Malone, Samuel Teller, Ian Malone, Adam Teller and Noah Teller; her brother, Clyde MacKenzie of New Jersey; and many dear friends. Funeral services will be held 5 p.m. Sunday, January 6 at Marysville First United Methodist Church in Marysville, Ohio, where the family will receive friends following the service at a dinner in the church’s Burnside Family Life Center. The Revs. Aaron Brown and Carrie Given will officiate. Private burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware.
