Ann Owens Thomas died peacefully surrounded by her family at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Virginia on April 19. She was 82.

Born in Altoona, Pa., on Sept. 5, 1930, to Robert and Alice (Colvin) Owens, she spent her childhood in Tyrone, Pa.

She attended Wellesley College and graduated with honors in 1952. While there, she was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She was a member of the Town and County Club of Hartford and of the Connecticut League of Women Voters. Ann was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. John B. Thomas of Oak Bluffs; a daughter, Martha (Thomas) Osborne and her husband Robert of McLean, Va. and their children Thomas and Sarah Osborne; two sons, John B. Jr. and his wife Anne of Sydney, Australia, and their children Marguerite, Andrew, Eileen, and Owen Thomas, and Matthew O. and his wife Beverly of Bedford, N.H., and their children Hillary (Thomas) Minerd, and Brittany Thomas. She was predeceased by her brother Robert W. Owens. She lived for many years in West Hartford, Ct., and spent her summers with her family in Harthaven on Martha’s Vineyard. She and her husband retired to Naples, Fla., in 1993. Ann moved to Arlington, Va., in the spring of 2012 to be close to her daughter Martha. A private family memorial service will be held in Bedford, Pa., this summer.
