Brian F. (Boofa) Ferriera died unexpectedly on Friday, April 26. He was 61.

Boofa was born on April 22, 1952 in Oak Bluffs, a son of the late Alfred and Catherine (Rezendes) Ferriera. It was on the Island that he gained his appreciation for wildlife, waterfowl and Mother Nature. He came to the Lodi, N.Y. area as a young man, found the area irresistible and stayed. He was an expert concrete mason and was highly sought after for his skilled trade and workmanship. His many projects as a talented craftsman, carpenter, electrician and plumber are known throughout the area. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman and conservationist. Even though he had a rough exterior and there was never any question as to how he felt about any subject, he fostered many lasting friendships and business relationships. He was always willing to lend a hand for a good cause, was a strong member and supporter of the Lodi Rod and Gun Club, and was a kind and thoughtful member of the Lodi community.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly five years, Polly Covert-Ferriera; his brothers, Fred Ferriera and his wife Karen of Tavernier, Fla., and Brent Ferriera and his wife Claire of Long Beach, Calif., and their children, Mercedes and Brent; his extended family on Martha’s Vineyard; his wife’s children, Robert Makela of Lacona, N.Y., Anthony Makela of Milliken, Colo. and Mellisa Makela of Erieville, N.Y.; his father and mother in law, Arthur and Hester Covert Jr. of Ithaca, N.Y.; his wife’s family, and a host of many friends. Boofa’s best friend and companion, Millie will also miss him.

A celebration of his life was held on May 2 at the Lodi Rod and Gun Club in Lodi. N.Y. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the Lodi Rod and Gun Club (lodirodandgunclub.com) in his memory.
