Beatrice L. Pacheco of Vineyard Haven died peacefully in her sleep at the Windemere Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Oak Bluffs on May 20. She was 90.

Beatrice was born in her parents’ home on Pine street in Vineyard Haven on Feb. 18, 1923. She graduated from the Tisbury High School in 1941.

In her youth, Beatrice worked for the draft board, the Martha’s Vineyard National Bank, and for 30 years as the tax collector for the town of Tisbury. After retiring from the town, “Bea,” as she was known around town, was a popular face at Cronig’s Main Street Market, Cronig’s State Road, and the A&P/Stop & Shop as a cashier until her second retirement in December 2008.

Beatrice was a proud member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling and dancing with her husband, George “Blackie” Pacheco, who predeceased her in 1987.

She is survived by her only daughter, Rosemarie L. Littlefield, and her husband, Earl. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Kim and Jonathan Klaren; Ken Romero and his partner, Jeff Caruthers; Lyrae Littlefield and her boyfriend, Dan Edelbach; and one great-grandchild, Kelly Klaren, whom she simply adored.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 24, at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home on Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road in Oak Bluffs from 6 to 8 p.m. A church service will be held Saturday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church on Franklin street in Vineyard Haven.
