Katharine W. (MacKenty) Bigelow of Winchester died on Dec. 23. She was 82.
She was the daughter of the late John and Katharine (Walker) MacKenty and was born on Feb. 20, 1931 in New York city. She attended primary and secondary school there. Her father was an executive with Radio Corporation of America (RCA) and they moved to the Vineyard after World War II.
Kay attended Brown University before marrying Robert P. Bigelow, son of Rolla and Doris Bigelow who were longtime residents of West Chop. They married at St. Andrew’s Church in Edgartown on April 14, 1951. They had four children and after they were grown, Kay finished her bachelor’s degree at Northeastern University. They were longtime summer residents of Edgartown and members of the Edgartown Yacht Club.
She leaves her beloved husband Robert Pratt Bigelow, Esq. and her children: Katharine (Kit) Bigelow and her husband David Henderson of Arlington, Va.; Robert (Bob) and his wife Nancy J. Bigelow of Winchester; Sanford (Sandy) Bigelow and his life partner Gelina Tibbit of Tucson, Ariz., and Edward (Ted) and his wife Deena Bigelow of Bloomfield, Conn. She was the adored grandmother of Andy, David, Walter, Kathryn, Mary Beth, Karryn, Stephen, Daniel and David. Kay was sister of John and his wife Irene MacKenty of Edgartown and the late Jeremiah and his wife Maria MacKenty of Edgartown. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held at the Lane Funeral Home in Winchester on Saturday, Dec. 28. Interment followed at Wildwood Cemetery in Winchester.
