Alexa F. (Burton) Johnson died on Monday, Feb. 10, at the home of her son in Edgartown. She was 82.

Alexa was born April 5, 1931 in Forest Township, St. Croix County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Earl and Barbara (Van Blaricom) Burton. She attended White Birch Elementary School in Forest Township and Glenwood High School in Glenwood City, Wis. She moved to New York city in 1956, where she married William Brent Johnson. They moved to Watertown, where she worked for New England Telephone Company and retired after 25 years. In 2007 she moved to Martha’s Vineyard where she enjoyed crocheting, reading, knitting, cooking and baking.

She is survived by her daughter Kelly Lee Geagan and her husband Thomas of Watertown, and her son Kenneth Joseph Johnson and his wife Mary of Edgartown. She is also survived by two sisters, Beulah Morrison of Isanti, Minn., and Harriet Knopps of San Antonio, Texas, and a brother, Ivan Burton of Alamagordo, N.M. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Matthew Geagan and his wife Katie of Waltham; Jeffery, Caitlyn and Collin Geagan all of Watertown; and William and Michael Johnson, both of Edgartown, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

She was predeceased by her husband William B. Johnson and her loving partner of 20 years Carl Garland; her daughter, Mylett Barbara Johnson who died in March of 1968, and her brothers, Gaylen Burton and David Burton, who died one day apart in December of 2006.

Her funeral service will be private and a celebration of her life will be held in the spring at a time to be announced.
