David M. Ellis died on March 17, 2014 in Lafayette Hill, Pa. He was 80.
He was a longtime summer visitor to the Island, since the family’s first rental on Lagoon Pond in 1970. He spent countless hours happily rowing and relaxing in his inflatable boat on Lake Tashmoo. He sharefavorite haunts and activities with his children and grandchildren, including the Agricultural Fair, street fairs, farmers’ markets, flea markets, nature walks, fireworks, cookouts and picnics, and was a champion tour guide for dozens of visitors. He was a loyal supporter of the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center, the Vineyard Haven library and the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse. His last summer at the Vineyard in 2013 was interrupted by a hospital stay in Boston, but he rallied to return to Lake Tashmoo. He received excellent care from many at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, including emergency as well as other staff, and from the Vineyard Nursing Association. Our family is especially grateful for our many longtime Vineyard friends.
