Dorothy Maureen Rohrer-Denalsky, 76 years young, of Embden, Me., died on Friday, Oct. 10.
Born in Hartford, Conn., to Frederic C. Rohrer 3rd and Dorothy Lagan Rohrer, she grew up in Simbury, Conn., with summers on Martha’s Vineyard. Dotty first came to the Island to visit grand and great-grandparents. In 1943, her parents purchased a cottage in the MVCMA. She summered there every year while growing up, and thereafter continued to visit for her honeymoon and then vacations with her family. She especially loved the beaches on Martha’s Vineyard.
A graduate of Simsbury High School, she attended Connecticut Central State College and married her high school sweetheart Andrew J. Denalsky. They lived on Long Island, N.Y., before returning to Simsbury to raise their family. For many years, she was the office manager for Stanley MacBeth Construction Co. in Granby, Conn. Later they retired to Embden, Me., for many happy years where she was the treasurer for the Embden Extension Homemakers group.
Besides her beloved husband of 55 years, she leaves her children Kimberly and her husband Kevin Leigland, Kurt and his wife Jeanne Denalsky, and Clinton Denalsky; also, three lights-of-her-life grandchildren, Kyle Denalsky, Kalyn Denalsky and Meridyth Leigland. She leaves her eldest sister Patricia Banks and her husband William Banks, and also an uncle, John Lagan, and several cousins and their families. She was predeceased by her parents and younger sister, Carole Rohrer.
Dot was a very warm and generous person, supremely devoted to her family and friends. We will all miss her deeply. There will be a memorial service at a later date.
