Mary-Lee (Lippy) L. Reade, of Tampa, Fla., and Vineyard Haven, died peacefully at home in Tampa on March 1, 2015. She was 94.

Born in Kansas City, Mo., on Sept. 13 1920, Lippy was the only child of Ben Deweese and Lucille Hand Lipscomb. She graduated from Mills College in Oakland, Calif., and obtained a master’s degree from Stanford University. After college she worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. in Boston before marrying Hugh R. Mac Millan, a vice president with Colgate-Palmolive Company, and moving first to New York city and then Short Hills, N.J., where they raised two children, Bobby and Betsy.

It was during her time in Boston that she made her first visit to the Vineyard and developed a lifelong love of the Island. After Hugh’s untimely death in 1957, Lippy married Robert (Bob) G. Rogers. They eventually settled in Pelham, N.Y., and raised two children, Tom and Robin. In 1974 the family moved to Tampa and also purchased their home in Vineyard Haven.

In 1996, following the death of her husband, Bob, Lippy married Edwin G. Reade Jr., whom she first met at the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club where both were active with the tennis program. They split their time spending November through May in Tampa and June through October on Martha’s Vineyard. Lippy was on the Board of Governors of the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club, and together she and Ed established the Vineyard Haven Tennis Foundation.

She was a member at Farm Neck Golf Club, where she shot a hole-in-one on the 9th hole. Lippy loved to play bridge and was renowned for her sewing talents, including crewel embroidery, needlepoint and smocking, for which she earned several ribbons at the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Fair.

Lippy was predeceased by her first husband, Hugh R. Mac Millan, her second husband, Robert G. Rogers, and her eldest son Robert Hugh Mac Millan. She is survived by her children Betsy Ann Mac Millan Turcotte and husband Edward, Thomas Ramsey Rogers and wife Melissa, Robin Rogers Kirkpatrick and husband Timothy, her granddaughter Leigh Ann Jeannette Rogers, her stepchildren John Reade and wife Masumi, Ned Reade and wife Maria, and Kate Reade Rosenblatt and husband Josh, and step-grandchildren Lisa Reade, Sarah Rosenblatt and husband Joe Flaherty, and Ali Rosenblatt.

A memorial service will be held in Tampa at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church on March 21, 2015 at 3 p.m. A burial service will be held this summer on Martha’s Vineyard.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her honor to the Vineyard Haven Tennis Foundation, YoungLife or the charity of your choice.
