Janice Feltz Cournoyer, daughter of John P. Feltz Sr. and Alice Feltz of Cranford, N.J., died peacefully, with family at her side, on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at the age of 64.

Janice grew up in Cranford, N.J. and moved to the Vineyard in 1981 to work beside her sister, Carolyn, at the Gay Head Cliffs. She later opened Subs Ahoy, a popular eatery, where she made many friends and became entrenched in the community.

Around that time she met her husband, Francis Cournoyer, the love of her life. They were always together and she worked right by his side. They lived a loving and happy life together until his death in 2004.

She made the best life she could without him. That included spending time with her grandson, Connor Bettencourt, which gave her great joy. She also adored and doted on her nephew and godson, Jesse Wiener, her nephew, John P. Feltz 3rd, and her niece, Kristina Feltz.

Janice was an avid gardener, a passion she shared with her good friend and helper, Thomas Phaneuf. She had great times with many, especially her first Vineyard friend, Colleen Sylvia, and her family.

She was a beautiful soul, caring and giving, who devoted two years of her life caring for her father and who helped many other people through the years.

She is survived by her siblings, Carolyn Feltz and her husband, Jerry Wiener, (and his children Leanne Roessler and family, and Corey Wiener); John P. Feltz Jr. and his wife, Kathleen Feltz; and Agnes Feltz; her nephews John P. Feltz 3rd and Jesse Wiener and his wife, Maggie Wiener; her niece Kristina Feltz; her aunts Elena DeFabio and her husband Donald Peer; Camille Baiamonte, and Faith DeFabio; her uncle Joseph Feltz, and many cousins and special friends.

She is also survived by her deceased husband Francis Cournoyer’s family, including daughters Becky Cournoyer and her husband Mark Bettencourt and Molly Cournoyer; grandsons Connor, Evan and Rowan Bettencourt; brother in law Frederick Cournoyer and his wife Sandra Cournoyer; and Francis’s other siblings and their wives. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services were held at the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs on Monday, Nov. 30, with a graveside service at the West Tisbury Cemetery on Tuesday, December 1.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Wounded Warriors.
