John W. (Jack) Durkee died Jan. 24 in Orange, Conn., due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He was 82 years old.

One of his greatest joys was being out on the water, and spent many years aboard his Cheoy Lee Offshore 26, navigating the Sound. On land, he enjoyed dutifully tending his rose bushes. After retiring from Citibank he and his wife Pat settled in Pinehurst, N.C. on Course no. 5, duffing to his heart’s content. He and Pat also continued their world travels, including yearly visits to the Vineyard.

He was predeceased by his wife Patricia in 2011. He is survived by his three sons; Stephen and his wife Elizabeth of Oak Bluffs, Daniel and his wife Lisa of Orange, Conn. and Peter of Plainville, Conn.. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Andrew, Tyler, Kevin and Stephanie.
