Mary Isobel Marshall of Vineyard Haven died on Wednesday, March 16 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. She was 88.

Mary was born in Oak Bluffs on April 19, 1927 to William and Joanne (McIver) Bernard. She lived in Oak Bluffs until her marriage to Stanley J. Marshall on Dec. 31, 1950. They were married for 63 years until Stanley died on March 10, 2014.

She worked for the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for 44 years; first in housekeeping and then in central supply.

Mary had a sweet and generous nature. She loved to knit and donated hundreds of handmade hats to Hospice and the Red Stocking Fund.

Mary is survived by her sister Ann Smith and her husband Nelson of Edgartown, her nephews William and Nelson Smith, and her niece Susan Smith.

Memorial visiting hours will be held at the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs on Tuesday, March 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. Her graveside service will be held on Wednesday March 30 at 11 a.m. at the Oak Grove Cemetery on State Road in Vineyard Haven, officiated by Rev. Michael Nagle.
