Michael S. Chmura of Smithfield, R.I. died Wednesday, June 1 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. He was 67 and the husband of Patricia E. (Ferguson) Chmura.

Born in Pawtucket, Michael was the son of the late Stanley and Wanda Chmura. He had lived in Smithfield since 1993 and had previously lived in North Providence.

He was a graduate of St. Raphael’s Academy and the University of Rhode Island, class of 1971, where he was a member of Psi Kappa and later received his master’s degree in education from Rhode Island College. He was a member of Rock Steady Boxing Club.

In 1984, Michael and his wife, Patricia, founded East Chop Sleep Shop in Vineyard Haven. Previously he was a special education teacher at Ponagansett High School.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his two sons: Timothy Chmura and his wife, Cheryl, of Cranston R.I.; and Todd Chmura and his wife, Melissa, of Monticello, Ky.; and his grandchildren Ryan, Aaron and Alexandria.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 7 at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 841 North Main Street, Attleboro, Mass. A visitation was held Monday, June 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Anderson Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville, R.I.
