I was saddened to hear of Cheryl's death. She was not only a Vineyard institution, but a warm and kind person. I had the opportunity of working for her one summer in the 1970's, and am glad I got to know her. My heart goes out to Margie.

I first met Cheryl when I worked at the Black Dog Bakery in the early 1970s. Her shop then was one of several small store spaces also occupied by the bakery on Water Street. It was a very special time on the Vineyard then. Her business were destined to move when the bakery expanded, and she chose to remain in Vineyard Haven. Cheryl's Main Street location opened its door and let her talents shine. She was a very distinctive and creative artist, with a good business sense, that allowed her to entice many inside to see and sample her talents. I have to admit I was one of them, and continued to visit, even after I moved on. She will be missed.

I'm so sorry to hear of Cheryl's death. My husband Donald who passed away in March of 2015 cared greatly for Cheryl. Most of our family knew her and admired her work. Deanna worked for her and our work was sold in their shops. We will miss her. I send thoughts and prayers and love to Margie.
