Den was on e of a kind with an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. He will be remembered as a prankster, friend of Bill and in later years a crusty SOB, God bless, be at peace.

Reconnected recently with Denny after many years being out of touch. He was generous to me many years ago and I owe him a debt. He was talented, joyous, cantankerous, troubled and giving. He will be missed by many and I wish him well in the beyond.

I didn't know Den other than beautiful words spoke about him by Ernie. It sounds to me as if this world has lost a wonderful person who will remain close at heart to very many. My sincere condolences to all he touched

Denny and I pestered each other continuously for 50 years, starting at ND and continuing on through Kauai last august. and lots of letters, emails, digs, along the way. we trudged the same "road of happy destiny"... I--and I should say "we"--family included--love his music, lyrics, book, photos, friends, fellow trudgers, and his heart and wit. he's a guy who made a difference-- I'm so glad he was here, and I know we all miss him

Very sad to have learned of Dennis” passing. I tracked him down from a 1970s ferry postcard and had many fun conversations on phone and shared slides together. We all are grateful for his photography and generous heart. I was waiting for him to return East and wondered why I didn’t hear from him through email. Thank you debnis, for having been a friend and fellow Block Island admirer. Journeyman still awaits your autograph so I’ll wait till we meet again.... always, Tim and family

Dennis was a wonderful, helpful neighbor during his Maine years. We have fond memories of him wandering over with Hudson or Bailey to tell us a funny story or rail about the most recent injustices on the part of Republican and corporate America. The local papers are not the same without his scathing letters to the editors. And our Annabelle still sits at the end of our driveway as if waiting for Bailey to show up and herd her around her own yard.

It's been almost a year now, I still can't believe it. Den and I made sawdust for several years together, shared a lot of laughs and discussion of the political morass. What hasn't been mentioned and what should be is though Dennis made his decision to leave this Earth on his own terms, he was pushed to the exit early by his inability to quit smoking. If you currently smoke, please quit! Please do not find yourself looking at the ugliness of COPD, gasping for breath and having panic attacks. Dennis was afraid, we talked for many hours about that reality which was due to tobacco. I loved him like a brother, I'll miss his loyalty, friendship, shooting clays, building stuff together, his love of his dogs and his heartsick loss of Kathleen. A unique person, forever grateful for having known him.

And what no one else mentions his first wife Adella who was a great person. She was a friend of mine in college and has also passed away.

I spent many years trying to find Dennis, from the back of a postcard of the old Block Island Ferry which ran from New London. Then one day, I received a reply email, from Dennis. I finally had found the photographer of 1 of my favorite photos (and memories) of the island. Dennis befriended me and shared several phone conversations - myself then in NYC, and he, on the west coast, planning to return east. I was honored when Dennis asked me to be included in reading his manuscript of what would become his "Journeyman" publication. In exchange, I guess, for our conversations and volleys, he sent me a few of his photo negatives, which I and my family treasure. I didn't know of his passing until a few months after May 2017, when several members on the Block Island Ferry Fan page on Facebook, spoke of his passing and posted a few photos in his honor. I wish we had met in person. I believe from what little time and brief correspondence we shared, he must have been one heck of a loyal friend. Thank you Dennis, for having made some time for me, enabling me to experience your storytelling, share in your love of Block Island (and yes, ferry boats which made our memories on the island possible). When I heard what happened I was saddened, but not really surprised. We went to a Mark O'Connor performance in Maine in that summer of 2005 and when they played 'Amazing Grace' as an encore he got up and ran out of the theater near the end of the performance - that had been played at the memorial service for Kathlene. He was a dog lover, as am I, and I was very fond of Hudson, who was very devoted to his dad in those months after the accident. He helped me in my search for my own doggie the next, and that was the last time I saw him. God speed, Dennis - I had a Mass offered for the repose of your kind, gentle and troubled soul.
