Jane-Ellen Estey Peters of Stamford, Conn. and Vineyard Haven died on Friday, June 2 after a short illness.

Jane-Ellen was born in Norwood and lived in Fairfield County, Conn. for almost 60 years. There she raised her family and was an active member of the community through work with the Junior League and the American Cancer Society, among other organizations. She served on the board of the Hartman Theater in Stamford and on the National Board of America the Beautiful, and she was also a member of the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club.

Her sense of timeless, understated elegance was expressed through her work as an interior designer and through her antiques and home furnishings businesses in Greenwich, Conn. and Vineyard Haven. Her style and knowledge were admired by clients and colleagues alike.

Jane-Ellen was a proud graduate of Mount Holyoke College. Throughout her life, she devoted significant time and energy to the school, fundraising and chairing her class reunions.

She was the beloved mother of Dana-Jane Arifi and Kirsten B. Peters of New York city and Jeffrey F. Peters of Weston and Vineyard Haven. She is also survived by her daughter in law Cristina Sage Peters and her three grandchildren, Alexander C. Arifi, Sarah S. Peters, and Bradford E. Peters.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to her alma mater to support its scholarship aid programs at mtholyoke.edu. Cherished by her family and much loved by her friends, she is sorely missed.
