Robert M. (Coo) Cavallo died unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 1 at his home in Edgartown. He was 65 and was the husband of Donna L. (Goodale) Cavallo.

A longtime resident of Edgartown, Coo was a well-known businessman and active in Island civic life. At the time of his death he was a member of the Edgartown planning board. At the selectmen’s meeting Tuesday, chairman Arthur Smadbeck called for a moment of silence, “for our good friend and colleague Coo Cavallo.” Flags will fly at half mast in Edgartown from Wednesday through Friday.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Jan. 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 5 in the Old Whaling Church at 1 p.m.

According to his wishes, he will be cremated. Donations in his memory may be made to the Martha’s Vineyard Ice Arena, P.O. Box 2062, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568. (Please use the memo line “In memory of Robert M. Cavallo.”)
