Margaret Mary (Peggy) O’Neil of Ontario, Calif., died peacefully on Jan. 19. She was 80.

Peggy was born in Everett on Jan. 25, 1938, to Frederick O’Neil and Lillian Monteith. She grew up in the state of Maine and then returned to Everett. She graduated from Everett High School in 1956. She moved to California and worked for the federal government at the Norton Air Force Base as a clerk typist. She also worked on the the Atlas missile program and later worked in Boston in Air Force Personnel.

She graduated from Mass Memorial University, Boston University Medical Center with a degree in radiologic technology. She was the chief technician in Xray at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for 12 years and lived in Oak Bluffs. She later sold real estate at Century 21, Alta in Ontario, and served as president of her homeowners association. She worked for 33 years at the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center in emergency, women’s imaging and mammography until retirement.

Peggy had a great sense of humor and her hobbies included golf, skiing, photography, traveling, and visiting Vineyard friends including retired nurse Gladys Welch, Diane, Darren and Neil, and her beloved pets.

She was predeceased by her parents Frederick and Lillian O’Neil, and brothers Frederick Jr. and Robert. She is survived by her sister Mary Barbara Porter of Pomona, and numerous and nieces and nephews, cousins and other extended family.

An Irish-themed memorial service was held in Pomona, Calif. on Feb. 3.

Interment will be on St. Patrick’s Day (Marh 17) at Glenwood Cemetery in Everett, preceded by a memorial mass in Boston.
