Paul J. Boniface of Edgartown, formerly of Essex Fells, N.J., died peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, on Feb. 8. He was 63.

A beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Paul was born in Newark, N.J. and lived in Essex Fells for over 30 years. He was a graduate of the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he earned his degree in engineering. He owned his own business, City Mechanical Resources, a company that specialized in HVAC installation and design for clients based in and around New York city, for over 18 years. Later he continued his successful career as a project manager for several years in New York city, most recently with the Gordian Group.

He loved being outdoors and surrounded by nature. He was an avid skier and hiker, and he especially loved being near the ocean, whether being at the beach or sailing.

One of his most memorable sailing adventures landed him on Martha’s Vineyard, a place he grew to love dearly. Paul and his wife, Marisa, fell in love with the Island and purchased a home there over 26 years ago. They have many wonderful family memories there, and Paul was always happiest on the Vineyard. Before moving to the Island full-time, he was an active member of the Essex Fells community, where he coached various sports teams for his daughters and others for many years, as well as played on the men’s nighttime basketball league. He was also a member of Rock Spring and Essex Fells Country Clubs.

He had a huge heart and fun-loving personality that touched everyone he met.

Paul is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marisa; his daughters Lauren, Stefania, Sabrina, and Alessandra; his sons in law Eric Brown, Daniel Brouillette, and James Hagerty; his grandchildren, Gabrielle, Zoe, and Aidan Brouillette and Julianna and William Hagerty; his parents, Margaret and Ernest of Wayne, N.J. and Vero Beach, Fla.; his siblings Cathy and Bill Hecht, Bill and Debbie Boniface, Andy and Cyndi Boniface, Joe and Darlene Boniface, and Jackie and John Mckennon, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Christian Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Consolation in Wayne, N.J. Family, friends, and neighbors are invited to visit the family home in Essex Fells on Friday, Feb. 16 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A heartfelt thanks to his many friends and coworkers for their friendship and support over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Paul J. Boniface’s memory to the Martha’s Vineyard Preservation Trust, P.O. Box 5277, Edgartown, MA 02539.
