Ronald E. Greenwood, a longtime summer resident of Chilmark, died peacefully at his home in Rye, N.Y. on Feb. 3. He was 89.

Ron grew up in London and emigrated to the United States in 1948. A true entrepreneur, he developed a proprietary ceramic precision casting process and founded Unicast Development Corp. to license the process to industrial customers throughout the world. He taught himself to fly his own aircraft to visit his customers in the United States and Canada, and for many summer holidays on Martha’s Vineyard.

He is survived by his brother Jeffrey Greenwood of London, two daughters, Jill G. duPont of Greenwich, Conn. and Jane Greenwood of Tarrytown, N.Y., four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was interred on Monday, Feb. 5 at Abel’s Hill Cemetery in Chilmark, next to his dear wife Hazel and their son David.

Known by the nickname Jeff to his friends on Martha’s Vineyard, and affectionately as Grampy to his close family, with whom he and Hazel shared their home at the foot of Ocean View Farm Road, Ron leaves his family and friends with wonderful memories, jars of homemade pickles, and excellent recipes for fish and chips and the very best chicken soup ever.
