Leona (Nonie) Coleman Flu, a longtime Oak Bluffs resident, died on the evening of Thursday, May 24 surrounded by her loving daughters. She was 94.

She was an avid artist and a piece of her Vineyard collection will be on exhibit at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum.

She first came to Martha’s Vineyard in 1940 with her parents, Luella and Ralf Coleman, and enjoyed summers at their home in Oak Bluffs, which is now part of the African American Heritage Trail of Martha’s Vineyard. Leona became a year-round resident of Oak Bluffs in the 1970s until moving to Atlanta, Ga. in 2015 with her youngest daughter.

She is survived by her daughters, Lesli Hester of Somerset, N.J. and Stacy Scott Lacroix of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Hester, Jocelyn Hester, Jenifer Hester, and Milton Lacroix; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Ewing A. Flu Jr.

A memorial service is being planned for August in Oak Bluffs.
