Alma R. West died June 1 at Windemere Nursing Home. She was 91.
She was born Oct. 14, 1926 on Martha’s Vineyard and lived her entire life on the Island.
She loved her family, friends, church, music, politics, and the Boston Red Sox.
Her children are thankful for special childhood memories she made sure they had, like going to the beach every summer day, trips to the Flying Horses and Giordano’s, horseback riding lessons, tooth fairy visits, and the best spaghetti and meatballs. They will miss their wonderful mom, but are thankful her struggles are over and she is finally at peace.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Burnham, and his wife, Yvonne; three daughters: Linda Kurth and her husband, Arthur, Pamela O’Neil and her husband, Richard, and Suzanne Schockett and her husband, Alan; three grandchildren: Dana Kurth and his wife, Mary; Max Schockett and his fiancée, Heather, and Bryn Donovan and her husband, Drew; five great-grandchildren: Thomas Kurth, Morgaina Kurth, Tyler Kurth, Alec Kurth, and Lilly Kurth; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Bertha Burnham of Edgartown, and her beloved grandson Andrew Kurth.
The family thanks the entire staff at Windemere for their loving care, with special thanks to Dr. Donnelly and Dorothy Soquist.
A private family graveside service will take place this summer.
Donations in her name can be made to the Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club, P.O. Box 654, Edgartown, MA 02539.
