Townsend Reed Morey Jr. of Longboat Key, Fla. died on July 31 in Natick. He was 87.
Born in Albany, N.Y. and married to the late Paula Neff Morey for 25 years, his family lived in Albany and Edgartown before moving to the Sarasota, Fla. area.
Townie was a retired president of the Townsend R. Morey Agency, an insurance company in Albany where he spent 25 years in the insurance brokerage business before merging with Alexander & Alexander, now Marsh Mcklelin.
Morey was a U.S. Naval officer who served during the Korean War on destroyers and submarines before retiring as a lieutenant commander.
He was an accomplished offshore and Amecica’s Cup trials competitive sailboat racer. He also enjoyed flying and held an active private pilot license for over 65 years.
Survivors include three sons: Townsend Reed Morey 3rd of Natick, David N. Morey of Washington, D.C., Martin N. Morey of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 10 in the assembly hall at the First Presbyterian Church at 362 State street in Albany, N.Y. Services will start at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary and interment will be Albany Rural Cemetery Menands, N.Y.
