William J. Faria, 87, of Goodyear, Ariz. died Nov. 23. He was born Oct. 9, 1931 in Oak Bluffs to Joseph and Amelia Faria.

Bill served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 1952 to March 1954 achieving the rank of corporal. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart along with other military honors for his service.

He was a member of the VFW and the Holy Ghost Society in Oak Bluffs, and enjoyed taking trips to the casino and loved following his sports teams: the Patriots, Celtics and especially the Boston Red Sox. He was the Boston Red Sox’s number one fan!

Bill was a great father and provider for his family. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Faria, sons William Faria, PhD, and Graham Faria and daughter-in-law Nancy Faria, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bill was blessed to have many wonderful friends in Oak Bluffs and the kindness and friendship of Jack and Gwen Dempsey in Goodyear, Ariz.
