Barbara Anne McGovern died on Nov. 20 at her home in Falmouth.

She was born on Nov. 24, 1932, in Cherryvale, Kans. the daughter of Gertrude and Rev. H.T. Beatty.

She was married for 48 years to Thomas McGovern; they had lived in Falmouth for the past 12 years.

Barbara received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Rochester, her master’s degree from Queens College in New York and an advanced degree from Wesleyan University.

She taught high school honors English for 40 years in Long Island, N.Y. and Connecticut, where she had a positive and lasting influence on both her colleagues and students.

She was a devoted member and leader of numerous literary clubs, an avid reader and wonderful conversationalist. She was also a talented pianist who loved music, enjoyed cooking, horticulture, decorating and bird watching.

Tom and Barbara had an active life in Falmouth. Dedicated to family, she created a warm and loving home where many joyful memories were made.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters Candace and Kelly; a sister, Nancy Pat Richmond; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held in Falmouth Nov. 24.
