Robert (Bob) Hampton Brown Jr. died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 14. He was 70 and had been living at the time with his longtime girlfriend Jean Lubold in Millerton, N.Y. She predeceased him by only one month.

He was born in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 23, 1948, to the late Robert Hampton Brown Sr. and Josephine Heitmuller Brown Chifari,

Bob lived and worked as a carpenter on the Vineyard in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s and visited periodically after that.

He is survived by his three children: Jeremiah Brown of West Tisbury, Reuben Brown and Naomi Brown, both of Vineyard Haven; his ex-wife Lynne Irons of Vineyard Haven; two grandsons, one granddaughter and one great-grandson; siblings Nancy Lyons of Normal, Ill., Janet Bowman of Coconut Creek, Fla., and Barbara Atwood of Front Royal, Va.; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by a sister Mary (Jill) Kinser of Statesville, N.C

A private family service will be held after the holidays.
